Mitski—Laurel Hell

I designed an album case and vinyl record for Mitski's 2022 album Laurel Hell, as well as related tour merchandise. A monochromatic, grayscale photo of the artist was chosen to evoke the traditional instruments and Classical and Baroque-influenced melodies of the album, while the graphic elements of abstract splatters of red paint with its blue inversion disrupt the cover photo and follow the interior lyrics, much like the fusion of modern synthesized sounds throughout the album. The composition features a color theme of black, white and red, with accents of blue and shades of gray to emphasize the contrasting emotional states explored by the artist on the album.
